


Laxmipur held a series of programmes on Sunday to celebrate National Fisheries Week 2026 including a road rally, fish fry release, discussion meetings and award distribution for local fish farmers, fishermen and entrepreneurs.
According to the schedule signed by District Fisheries Officer Md. Jasim Uddin, fish fry were released at 9:30am into a pond at Laxmipur Government Children's Home (Boys). A road rally began at 10am from the District Collectorate premises to Jhumur More joined by government officials, fish farmers, fishermen, entrepreneurs and local residents.
At the same time, the National Fisheries Week inauguration and discussion meeting was held in the Deputy Commissioner's conference room. Awards were later presented to successful fish farmers, fishermen, and entrepreneurs at 11am in the same venue.
Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate SM Mehedi Hasan attended as chief guest while Superintendent of Police Md. Abu Tarek and Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Baharul Alam were special guests. District Fisheries Officer Md. Jasim Uddin presided over the event.
Officials said the week-long programme aims to boost fish production, promote modern farming technology, support fishermen and entrepreneurs and raise public awareness about fisheries development.
