


The Department of Fisheries has released 694 kg of native fish fry into eight water bodies across Tangail Sadar Upazila to protect local species and meet growing demand.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku MP inaugurated the initiative on Saturday morning by releasing fish fry into the Garaildaha Baor (oxbow lake) in Sadar Upazila.
Speaking as the chief guest, the Minister stated that the government is actively releasing fish fry into public and private water bodies, including ponds, beels, haors, and baors nationwide. He emphasized that sustainable fish farming and proper water management are essential to boosting the local economy and ensuring food security.
The event was attended by Tangail Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Shahin Mia, Sadar Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Ayub Ali, and local administrative officials.
A total of Tk 2.5 lakh was allocated to release native varieties, including Rui, Katla, and Mrigal, across the eight designated water bodies in the upazila.
