ICT and Science & Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam Swapan emphasized that coordinated efforts are essential to improve medical services at Tangail General Hospital.
Speaking as the president of the District Hospital Management Committee on Saturday (July 11), he stated that healthcare is a fundamental right and remains a top priority for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The government, he noted, is focused on transforming district hospitals into highly effective, people-friendly centers.
Addressing the meeting at the 250-bed facility, the minister assured that the government will systematically resolve ongoing infrastructure issues, including shortages of doctors, technicians, medical equipment, and functional elevators. Swapan, the MP for Tangail-1, warned against any negligence, particularly in the emergency department. He urged hospital staff to maintain cleanliness and treat patients humanely to ensure a harassment-free environment that earns public trust.
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku, attending as the committee’s vice president, echoed these directives. He highlighted the hospital's critical role for residents of Tangail and neighboring districts, calling on medical staff to perform their duties with sincerity and accountability. Tuku reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing existing manpower and structural limitations.
The session featured comprehensive discussions on securing a patient-friendly environment, ensuring staff attendance, maintaining medicine supplies, and upgrading hospital security.
Key attendees included Hospital Superintendent Dr. Khandaker Sadiqur Rahman, District Administrator Sharifa Haque, Superintendent of Police Shamsul Alam Sarkar, local DAB leaders, and senior health department officials.
