


Two individuals have been arrested for allegedly using forged documents to fraudulently remove a cargo-laden container from Chattogram Port.
The arrested men were identified as Md. Morshed Alam 31, of Uttar Koiya village in Patiya's Jiri Union and Md. Saidur Rahman 51, of Nazirpur Upazila in Pirojpur.
According to police the incident occurred on August 11 at around 6:07 PM at the FCL section of the Terminal Manager's office in Chattogram Port. The accused allegedly acting with unidentified accomplices, forged documents and signatures to present fake "on-date" and "on-chassis" assignments as genuine.
Using these forged papers also they managed to remove a container filled with goods through Gate No. 1 of the port with bypassing security checks. A case has since been filed with the Port Police Station over the incident.
Md. Abdur Rahim, Officer-in-Charge of Port Police Station said the two were arrested in front of the Terminal Manager's office with assistance from the Chattogram Port Authority. He said the accused had bypassed port security through document and signature forgery to remove the container.
Both men have confessed to clearing and removing the cargo container through fraudulent means with the help of accomplices who remain unidentified. Police said an investigation is underway to identify and arrest the other individuals involved in the scheme.
Authorities said the case highlights ongoing concerns over documentation fraud and security lapses at the country's busiest seaport with officials pledging tighter scrutiny of container clearance procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses and additional suspects are identified.
