The government is actively working to restore order to a long-neglected healthcare sector, Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain announced on Sunday (August 16).

Speaking to reporters following a surprise inspection of the Maheshpur Upazila Health Complex in Jhenaidah, the Minister revealed plans to recruit 100,000 healthcare personnel, including doctors, to bring systemic changes to healthcare delivery.

All upazila-level hospitals have already been upgraded to 100-bed facilities to expand inpatient capacity.

Plans are underway to establish 10-bed dialysis units across upazila hospitals in the near future.

Modern pathology and physiotherapy services will be expanded to the upazila level, alongside improvements to Union Health Centers and Family Welfare Centers.

The government will soon roll out a 'Health Card' initiative to streamline patient care and record-keeping.

The Minister confirmed that adequate stocks of essential medicines, family planning supplies, and vaccines are currently available.

A long-term framework is being implemented to resolve shortages of doctors and medicines, rebuild public trust in government medical services, and ensure healthcare reaches citizens' doorsteps.
