Every Crime Against Humanity in Bangladesh Will Be Tried: Law Minister

Stating that justice will be served for fascists and every murder, Law Minister Advocate Md. Asaduzzaman affirmed that every crime against humanity in Bangladesh will be brought to trial through transparent and fair judicial processes.

Speaking on Sunday (August 16) at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the 10-story building of the Barishal District Bar Association, the Law Minister emphasized that the government is moving forward with these trials, ensuring they will be conducted with open justice rather than in secret.

He highlighted the sacrifices made during the previous administration, stating that over 4,500 allies were killed in alleged crossfires and more than 700 comrades were subjected to enforced disappearances. He added that over the past 17 years, more than 6 million BNP leaders and activists faced false and fabricated cases simply for their political affiliation.

Recalling the 1-11 political crisis, the Law Minister noted that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was offered full privileges to leave the country and abandon politics, alongside threats to her sons' lives. However, she refused to compromise or leave the land containing the grave of Shahid President Ziaur Rahman. In contrast, he pointed out that another leader chose to flee abroad with privileges without considering the nation.

He further added that the current BNP government managed to earn the public's trust within just six months of taking office. To fulfill its promises, the government has already initiated the distribution of Family Cards and Farmer Cards, with plans to gradually bring all citizens under these schemes.
