Bangladesh has called on India to create a conducive environment for an upcoming bilateral visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Shahidul Karim announced during a press briefing on Sunday (August 16).

According to the spokesperson, officials from both nations have been in communication over recent weeks to arrange the Prime Minister's visit to New Delhi. However, discussions faced disruption following recent public engagements in New Delhi by Sheikh Hasina, who has been convicted of crimes against humanity by the International Crimes Tribunal.

Dhaka has urged Indian authorities to act swiftly on Bangladesh's extradition requests regarding Sheikh Hasina and other fugitives.

The spokesperson requested the immediate transfer of those accused in the murder of Shahid Sharif Osman Hadi, pursuant to the existing bilateral extradition treaty.

Bangladesh reaffirmed its commitment to the "Bangladesh First" policy, aiming to build friendly bilateral ties grounded in sovereign equality, mutual respect, non-interference in internal affairs, and shared benefits.
