BRICS leaders on Saturday called for greater efforts to prevent and peacefully resolve conflicts in Iran and Ukraine while opposing any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. The calls were part of the New Delhi Declaration, unanimously adopted on the first day of the bloc's two-day summit in India's capital.
Expressing deep concern over continued violence in Gaza despite the October 2025 ceasefire the BRICS leaders demanded an end to policies aimed at displacing Palestinians and warned against arrangements that could undermine Palestinian rights or prolong occupation. The declaration reaffirmed that a just solution depends on Palestinians' rights to self-determination and return and rejected unilateral moves to alter Jerusalem's legal status also calling for full respect for religious sites and access rights.
The bloc also condemned attacks on UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon as violations of international law, and urged the global community to address conflicts through diplomatic measures and root-cause solutions with encouraging regional organizations to play an active role in resolution efforts.
On nuclear safety the leaders voiced serious concern over rising risks of nuclear conflict and attacks on civilian nuclear infrastructure also calling for stronger disarmament and nonproliferation commitments.
Addressing trade the BRICS leaders criticized the global trading system's instability, citing a rise in tariffs and trade-restrictive measures inconsistent with WTO rules. They also condemned unilateral economic sanctions, saying such measures violate international law and disproportionately harm vulnerable populations by affecting health, food security and development rights, particularly in developing nations.
