


Bangladesh continues to report deaths amid an ongoing measles outbreak, with three more children dying while receiving treatment for measles-related symptoms in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest deaths bring the combined number of fatalities from suspected and laboratory-confirmed measles cases to 918 since the outbreak began.
The DGHS reported the figures in its regular measles situation update issued on Tuesday, August 18. The three deaths occurred between 8am Monday and 8am Tuesday, according to the report.
An analysis of DGHS data shows that since March 15, a total of 819 people have died after developing measles symptoms.
Another 99 deaths have been recorded among laboratory-confirmed measles cases.
Together, the two categories account for 918 deaths during the period.
The health authorities also reported that 126,289 patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to government and private hospitals across the country since the outbreak began.
Of those patients, 121,880 have recovered and been discharged, according to the latest DGHS figures.
Health authorities are continuing to monitor the outbreak and provide treatment to affected patients as measles cases remain a public health concern across the country.
