Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was transferred back to Adiala prison on Friday after undergoing a brief the court-ordered medical examination at a hospital in Islamabad.

A spokesperson for Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party confirmed his return to the Rawalpindi detention facility the 73-year-old leader has been incarcerated since August 2023.

Khan's temporary transfer to Shifa International Hospital followed a Tuesday Supreme Court order granting him access to a medical panel included his personal physician.

Khan’s legal team alleges his health has significantly deteriorated in custody with citing substantial vision loss in his right eye.

In contrast, the government maintains that recent medical reports show no conditions requiring immediate or urgent treatment.

Khan continues to assert that the multiple legal cases against him are politically motivated though an accusation the Pakistani government firmly denies.
