A Pakistani special court on Saturday handed 17-year prison sentences to former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in a fresh corruption case involving the under-priced purchase of luxury state gifts.
The verdict includes 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for criminal breach of trust and an additional seven years under anti-corruption laws, alongside heavy fines.
The case centers on high-value watches gifted by the Saudi Crown Prince, which prosecutors claim were acquired by the couple at a steep discount, causing significant losses to the state.
Khan’s legal team has slammed the ruling as "selective prosecution" and a violation of justice principles, confirming they will appeal at the Islamabad High Court. This sentence is set to run consecutively after Khan completes a prior 14-year term, further deepening the legal challenges for the embattled PTI leader who has remained in custody since August 2023.
