Applications for Class XI admission to colleges and madrasas could begin online on September 2 under a revised schedule submitted to the education ministry the officials said Thursday.
The Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has proposed accepting first-phase applications from September 2-10, said Chairman Syed Aktaruzzaman. Candidates whose SSC results change after re-scrutiny would get a second chance to apply on September 12-13. Admission would be finalised on September 20-22 with classes proposed to start September 24.
The committee initially planned to begin applications on September 15 and classes on November 12 but the ministry advised bringing the process forward to save time, prompting the revised timeline. Dates will be finalised once the ministry approves the admission policy, and it will also decide the number of application rounds.
Applications are typically accepted in three phases with a fourth opened if seats remain vacant. Aktaruzzaman said the number of phases could be reduced this year to save students time.
Admission will remain based on SSC and equivalent results with students applying online and selected according to their preference order and exam scores.
Of the 1.829 million candidates who sat SSC and equivalent exams across 11 education boards this year 1.14 million passed. Bangladesh has around 2.5 million Class XI seats at colleges and madrasas with about 750,000 expected to remain vacant after this year's admission process.
The centralised system covers higher secondary colleges and madrasas only the technical education institutions will hold separate admissions.
