Two Arrested With 4 Kg of Cannabis in Morelganj

Two men were arrested in separate anti-drug operations in Morelganj, Bagerhat, on Wednesday, Aug. 19, authorities said.

The suspects were identified as Delwar Hossain Sheikh, 60, and Kaiyum Sheikh, 35.

Kaiyum, son of Abdul Mannan Sheikh of Mitradanga village, was sentenced to three months of simple imprisonment and fined Tk 200 by a mobile court.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Md. Habibullah handed down the sentence at about 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Delwar, son of Abdul Barek Sheikh of Nurullapur village, was found carrying 4 kilograms of cannabis, according to officials. The Department of Narcotics Control filed a case against him and handed him over to police.

The Upazila Nirbahi Officer said the local administration conducted anti-drug operations in several areas of Morelganj with assistance from the Bagerhat Department of Narcotics Control.

Both suspects were arrested while allegedly carrying out drug-related activities, officials said. The administration will continue such operations in the public interest, the official added.
