Faridpur Offers Monthly 5000 Stipends for College Students

Faridpur Municipality has launched a higher education scholarship program providing eligible low-income students with 5,000 BDT ($40) per month for up to two years.

Up to 10 first- and second-year students enrolled in public universities, government medical colleges, or dental colleges will be selected, according to a municipal press release issued Wednesday. Applications are open through Sept. 10.

Municipal Chief Executive Officer Hossain Mohammad Hai Zaki stated that applicants must be permanent residents of Faridpur Municipality, demonstrate financial need, and show proof of university enrollment. City officials will conduct field verifications to confirm each candidate's financial background.

"This initiative eases the path to higher education for bright, underprivileged students," said Faridpur Municipality Administrator Eliyashur Rahman. Selected recipients must maintain program conditions throughout the two-year period to retain their funding.

Advocate Shipra Goswami, former president of the Faridpur Committee for Concerned Citizens (CCC), praised the decision, noting that the stipend will cover essential academic expenses for local students pursuing higher degrees.

Interested applicants must submit their educational ID, proof of admission, citizenship certificate, and national ID copy to the municipality by the Sept. 10 deadline.
