Popular Bangladeshi actor Niloy Alamgir has criticized people who have been mocking and trolling the newly launched ‘Pink Bus’ service for women on social media.
The actor, who is also active on social media and frequently shares his views on various social issues, expressed his frustration in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
In his post, Niloy said that joking about or making fun of the Pink Bus might be expected, but questioned who should be making such jokes.
He specifically criticized certain bus drivers and helpers whom he described as having an uneducated and negative mindset, while making it clear that he was not referring to all drivers and helpers.
Niloy also strongly condemned those using Facebook to ridicule the initiative, saying such behavior reflects the same attitudes he was criticizing.
The Pink Bus service was launched on August 18 as an initiative aimed at providing women with safer and more comfortable public transportation in Dhaka.
The service is operated by female drivers and conductors and is intended particularly to support working women and female passengers.
Since its launch, the initiative has generated considerable discussion on social media. While some users have mocked or criticized the service, many others have welcomed the initiative and praised efforts to improve women's safety and comfort in public transportation.
Niloy Alamgir has previously spoken out on various social issues and frequently uses social media to express his opinions on perceived injustice and social problems.
His latest comments against the online trolling of the Pink Bus have added another dimension to the ongoing debate surrounding the new service, generating fresh discussion among social media users.
