Faridpur Municipality has launched a financial assistance program to support low-income, high-achieving students pursuing higher education.
Under the scheme, up to 10 selected students enrolled in public universities or government medical and dental colleges will receive a monthly stipend of 5,000 BDT ($42 USD) for up to two years.
Interested candidates must submit their applications using the prescribed form by September 10, 2026, according to an official announcement released Wednesday.
Faridpur Municipality Chief Executive Officer Hossain Mohammad Hai Zaki stated that applicants must be permanent residents of any ward within Faridpur Municipality. Candidates must be first- or second-year full-time students at a public university, medical college, or dental college in Bangladesh. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need, which local officials will verify through field visits.
Applicants must submit proof of admission, a valid student ID, a national identity card copy, and a local citizenship certificate with their applications. Municipal authorities reserve the right to make all final selection decisions.
Faridpur Municipality Administrator Iliyasur Rahman highlighted that the initiative aims to ease the burden of higher education costs for underprivileged students.
"Up to 10 students meeting all criteria will be selected," Rahman said. "Recipients must maintain compliance with municipal guidelines to continue receiving the grant."
He added that students seeking additional details should contact the municipality's Education and Cultural Officer.
Welcoming the move, Advocate Shipra Goswami, former president of the Faridpur Committee for Concerned Citizens (CCC), praised the local government’s efforts.
"This initiative provides crucial financial support for low-income students striving for higher education," Goswami said. "It will significantly help cover regular academic expenses for university and medical students."
