A court has sentenced former Teknaf Sadar Union Parishad member Md. Abdullah to four years in prison for acquiring illegal wealth through drug dealing and concealing asset information. His father Abul Bashar received a three-year sentence for helping conceal the illicit wealth.
Chattogram Divisional Special Judge Md. Mizanur Rahman delivered the verdict on Thursday. ACC lawyer Mokarram Hossain said the charges were proven based on testimony from nine witnesses. Abdullah was also fined Tk.8,445,858 while both accused remained absent during the verdict, prompting arrest warrants against them.
According to case records Abdullah was issued a notice on April 27, 2019 to submit an asset declaration but failed to do so within the required seven working days and did not seek an extension. An Anti-Corruption Commission investigation found assets worth Tk.10,023,065 in his name also far exceeding his declared legal income of Tk.10 lakh.
Abul Bashar was implicated for aiding his son in legalising illegal assets. He purchased land worth Tk.20 lakh in Teknaf in November 2016 then transferred it to Abdullah just three months later in February 2017 a move investigators say was intended to conceal the illicit wealth.
The ACC launched its probe into Abdullah in 2017 over assets disproportionate to his known income. The case was approved in February 2020 and filed at Chattogram's Integrated District Office that August. Charges were framed against both father and son on June 30, 2026 and the trial began soon after.
