FIFA has announced that Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Maracana Stadium will host both the opening match and the final of the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Making history as the first South American nation to host the tournament and Brazil will kick off the 32-team competition at the 73,000-seat venue on June 24 against an opponent that is yet to be determined. Following the opener the host nation will travel to Sao Paulo and Brasília for their remaining group-stage matches.
The month-long tournament will be spread across eight Brazilian cities also culminating with the final at the Maracana on July 25.
The Maracanã holds a legendary status in global football, having previously hosted the men’s World Cup finals in 1950 and 2014. With this upcoming tournament, it will join an exclusive list alongside Sweden’s Råsunda Stadium and California’s Rose Bowl as one of the few venues in history to host both the men's and women's World Cup finals.
Spain will enter the 2027 tournament as the defending champions, while host nation Brazil will be fighting to secure its first-ever Women's World Cup title on home soil.
