Narail observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Friday with an awareness rally, a discussion meeting and an award distribution ceremony. The programs were jointly organized by the district administration and the local Department of Narcotics Control (DNC).
The day’s events began at 10:30 am with a colorful rally that started from the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office, paraded through key city roads and concluded back at the starting point. Following the procession, a formal discussion was held at the DC office conference room.
Speaking as the chief guest, Narail DC Dr. Mohammad Abdul Salam highlighted the severe threat substance abuse poses to society, particularly the younger generation. Speakers emphasized that while administrative action is crucial, building a drug-free society demands collective efforts from families, educational institutions, and the broader community. They urged citizens to raise public awareness and called for a strict zero-tolerance policy against illicit drug trafficking.
Additional District Magistrate Lincoln Biswas presided over the session. Special guests included Superintendent of Police Mohammad Al Mamun Sikder and Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Abdur Rashid. DNC Deputy Director Golok Majumdar delivered the welcome address.
The event attended by government officials, law enforcement personnel, teachers, students and local dignitaries concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of various youth anti-drug competitions.
