General point-to-point inflation in Bangladesh rose to 9.04% in April 2026, up from 8.71% in March, according to the latest report from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The data reveals a broad increase in costs across both food and non-food sectors. Food inflation climbed to 8.39% from 8.24% in March, while non-food inflation saw a more significant jump, reaching 9.57% compared to 9.09% the previous month.
Both rural and urban households felt the squeeze as prices trended upward across the country:
Rural Areas: Overall inflation hit 9.05%. Food prices rose to 8.23%, while non-food inflation surged to 9.81%.
Urban Areas: General inflation reached 9.02%. While food inflation saw a marginal increase to 8.81%, non-food inflation climbed sharply to 9.15% from 8.62% in March.
Economists note that the persistent rise in non-food costs is currently the primary driver behind the overall inflationary pressure affecting consumers nationwide.
