The Coast Guard arrested 12 smugglers along with a large quantity of cement being smuggled toward Myanmar as the officials said Saturday.
In a special operation based on a secret tip-off, Coast Guard Station Hatia intercepted two suspicious boats around 5:30am in the Meghna River under Hatia Police Station in Noakhali, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan confirmed.
Authorities seized 595 sacks of cement, weighing approximately 29,750 kg and valued at around Tk 2.97 lakh along with the two boats used for smuggling.
Legal action against the arrested smugglers is underway with the seized cement and boats held as evidence.
