In a major drive to enforce the government’s 58-day marine fishing ban, the Bangladesh Coast Guard seized over 10,000 kg of hilsa in Bhola on Tuesday night.
The operation took place around 10:00 pm near Panpatti Bazar under Bhola Sadar Police Station. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team intercepted three suspicious trucks and recovered 10,140 kg of marine hilsa. The market value of the seized fish is estimated at approximately Tk 1.01 crore.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan confirmed the raid on Wednesday night. He noted that the government has prohibited all fishing in Bangladesh’s maritime waters from April 15 to June 11, 2026, to protect fish breeding and boost production.
Following the seizure, the fish were distributed among local orphanages, madrasas, and underprivileged families in the presence of the Bhola Sadar Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer.
