The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-15) arrested an active member of Myanmar's armed group Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) with a foreign pistol, magazine and bullets during a special operation at Ukhia's Rohingya refugee camp in Cox's Bazar.
The operation took place around 12:15am Friday in the Maragachtala area of Camp No. 11 in Ukhia. The arrested youth identified as Mohammad Zahir 19, is a resident of Block-2, Camp No. 12 in Maynarghona.
RAB-15 Assistant Director AM Faruk said officers grew suspicious of Zahir's movements during a night check post operation in the area and detained him. A search recovered a foreign pistol, a magazine and four bullets from his possession.
During initial questioning, Zahir admitted to being an active ARSA member. RAB said intelligence indicated he had long been carrying weapons within the camp and was involved in various criminal activities.
A case has been filed against Zahir at Ukhia Police Station under the Arms Act and he has been handed over to police for further legal action.
