Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Sheikh's 55th Martyrdom Anniversary Observed in Narail

The 55th martyrdom anniversary of Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Sheikh, one of the Liberation War's most celebrated heroes was observed with due honor in his birthplace, Narail on Friday.

The district administration and Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Trust jointly organized tributes, a guard of honor, a discussion meeting and special prayers. The program began with Quran recitation and a colorful rally that circled local roads before ending at the Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Memorial, where wreaths were laid by district and police officials, the district council, freedom fighters and local educational institutions.

A police team provided a guard of honor and followed by special prayers in his memory. A discussion meeting was later held at the Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Memorial Museum and Library, chaired by Deputy Director of the Local Government Department Nazmul Huda who highlighted the hero's lasting contribution to the nation.

Speakers included Zilla Parishad Administrator and freedom fighter Mostafizur Rahman Alek, Additional District Magistrate Lincoln Biswas and Bir Shrestha's son Sheikh Mustafa Kamal. They called for presenting an accurate account of the Liberation War and Noor Mohammad's heroism to younger generations.

Born on February 26, 1936 in Mahishkhola village, Narail, Noor Mohammad joined the then East Pakistan Rifles in 1959. He was martyred fighting Pakistani forces in Jessore's Goalhati village on September 5, 1971 and was later awarded Bir Shreshtha the country's highest military honor.
