


The 90th birth anniversary of Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Sheikh, a legendary hero of the 1971 Liberation War, is being observed today, February 26.
Born in 1936 in Mahishkhola village (now Noor Mohammad Nagar) of Narail, Noor Mohammad joined the East Pakistan Rifles (EPR)—now Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)—in 1959.
During the Liberation War, Lance Naik Noor Mohammad fought in Sector 8 under the Jessore region. On September 5, 1971, he demonstrated extraordinary courage during a frontal battle against the Pakistani army at Goalhati and Chutipur in Jessore. He sacrificed his life to save his fellow soldiers while holding off the enemy.
In recognition of his ultimate sacrifice, he was posthumously awarded 'Bir Shrestha,' the nation's highest gallantry honor. He rests in Kashipur, Sharsha.
To mark the day, the Noor Mohammad Trust and the Narail district administration have organized several programs in Noor Mohammad Nagar.

Locals and officials gathered this morning to pay their respects to the martyr who remains a symbol of national pride.
