A free eye treatment camp for underprivileged residents was held Saturday at Khankapara field in Piroli village, Kalia upazila, Narail. After examinations, 45 patients were referred to Ad-Din Sakhina Medical College Hospital in Jessore for advanced treatment and surgery.
The camp, held from 9am to noon was organized by Khankapara Sabuj Sangha in collaboration with Ad-Din Sakhina Medical College Hospital.
Patients of all ages received eye examinations with medical advice and treatment at the camp. Those requiring advanced care or surgery were identified and arrangements made to send them to Jessore with the organizing committee covering transportation and other necessary support.
Sheikh Rabiul Alam, Managing Director of Ad-Din Sakhina Medical College Hospital, attended as special guest. Also present were Khankapara Sabuj Sangha advisor Mahmudul Haque Abu Zafar, Senior Vice President Sheikh Altaf Uddin, former Kalia Press Club president Golam Morshed Sheikh and other organization leaders and volunteers.
Several patients said financial hardship had long prevented them from seeking treatment for eye problems and expressing gratitude for receiving free examinations near home and the promise of free surgery.
Tanvir Hasan Bappi, General Secretary of Khankapara Sabuj Sangha, said the initiative aims to ensure eye care access for the village's poor also adding that the organization will continue such welfare efforts in the future.
