Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee inspected the under-construction 250-bed building at Laxmipur Sadar Hospital on Saturday and ordered swift completion of the work.
Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee visited the eight-storey building around noon with touring various sections and reviewing construction progress with officials. He directed authorities to speed up work and finish the project within the set timeframe.
The contracting company informed him that construction would be completed by next February, after which the building will be handed over to hospital authorities.
Public Works Department Executive Engineer Shafiqur Rahman and Laxmipur Civil Surgeon Dr Md Baharul Alam were present during the visit.
The minister also discussed the hospital's future capacity, instructing officials to initiate a new project for constructing a ninth and tenth floor on the building. Rahman said adding these floors would allow for 50 additional beds and 25 new cabins, further expanding medical and residential facilities for patients.
According to officials the construction of the new building began in 2019 but remained incomplete after six years. A new project worth Tk.8.42 crore was undertaken in 2025 to finish the remaining work after roughly Tk.36 crore had already been paid to the previous contractor.
The prolonged delay has limited the expansion of medical services in the district. Officials say completing the building soon would bring modern, expanded healthcare to a large number of patients in Laxmipur.
