Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee has requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to establish a modern regional training center for the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (Ansar-VDP) in Lakshmipur.
In a semi-official letter sent to Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Sunday, Anee emphasized that a permanent facility is essential to boost operational capacity and skill development for Ansar-VDP members across Lakshmipur, Noakhali, Feni and Chandpur.
Highlighting Lakshmipur’s vulnerability as a coastal district prone to river erosion, cyclones and floods, the minister noted that Ansar-VDP personnel play a critical role in local rescue, relief and law enforcement operations.
Currently the members from the region must travel long distances for training, incurring high costs and logistical delays. Anee stated that a dedicated regional center would streamline training in disaster management, first aid, firefighting and public security with ensuring rapid emergency responses across the coastal belt.
A copy of the proposal has also been forwarded to the Director General of Ansar-VDP for necessary action.
