Acting Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Sarwar announced today that law enforcement will install counterfeit currency detection machines at all cattle markets in the capital ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
The move is part of a coordinated strategy to prevent the spread of fake notes during the busy festive season. Speaking to reporters after inspecting development work at the Gabtoli Cattle Market, Sarwar emphasized that intelligence surveillance will be heightened to catch those attempting to circulate counterfeit money.
"Detectives and intelligence units will be active across all markets to identify sources of fake currency in advance and bring offenders to justice," the acting chief stated.
Beyond financial security, the DMP is prioritizing traffic management, which Sarwar identified as the biggest challenge due to the 24-hour operation of the Gabtoli market and bus terminal. To ease congestion, authorities have constructed a new road and designated specific loading and unloading points for cattle trucks.
Sarwar also noted that police are working closely with city corporations to prevent market-related violence. A detailed management plan for the Gabtoli Cattle Market is expected to be released shortly.
