


A series of lightning strikes killed at least eight people in six districts across Bangladesh on Wednesday afternoon. Most of the victims were farmers and laborers busy harvesting Boro paddy and maize when sudden thunderstorms struck.
The fatalities highlight the recurring danger lightning poses to rural workers during the pre-monsoon season.
District-wise Casualties:
Naogaon: Three people died in Niamatpur and Mahadevpur upazilas. Victims include Dilip Chandra Barman and Anukul Chandra Mahant, who were struck while harvesting paddy. An unidentified laborer also died in Hajinagar union.
Mymensingh: Abdur Rashid (55) was killed while working in a field near his home in Nandail upazila.
Lalmonirhat: Yusuf Ali (40) died after being struck while tending to a maize field in Kaliganj upazila.
Kurigram: Farmer Obaidul Islam was killed during the paddy harvest in Nageshwari upazila.
Jamalpur: Sohel Mia (30) died on the spot in a maize field in Dewanganj upazila. The local administration has promised government assistance to his family.
Natore: Aziz Mandal (45) was killed while working in the Padma Char area of Lalpur upazila.
Local authorities and police confirmed that most accidents occurred as the sky suddenly darkened and workers were unable to reach shelter in time.
