Preparation Meeting Held for Smooth Boro Harvest in Shantiganj Haors

A preparation meeting to ensure the smooth harvesting of Boro paddy in the haor areas was held in Shantiganj upazila of Sunamganj on Wednesday.

The meeting took place at 11:00 am, organized jointly by the Shantiganj Upazila Administration and the Department of Agricultural Extension.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Ahsan Habib chaired the meeting, while Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mohammad Shahjahan attended as the chief guest.

Among others present were Upazila Fisheries Officer Kamrul Hasan; BNP leader and Sunamganj-3 constituency MP nominee Rawshan Khan Sagar; Shantiganj Press Club General Secretary Sohel Talukder; Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Abul Kalam Azad; representatives of harvester companies; local harvester owners; fuel suppliers; and farmers.

Speaking at the meeting, UNO Mohammad Shahjahan stressed the need for coordinated efforts to complete harvesting on time. He said all harvesting machines have already been serviced, and damaged equipment will be repaired quickly. He also assured uninterrupted diesel supply and round-the-clock administrative support for farmers.

This year, Boro paddy has been cultivated on 22,612 hectares of land in the upazila. Harvesting will be carried out using 77 local harvesters along with 50 additional machines brought from outside.

The cost of harvesting has been set at Tk 1,900 per kear (local land unit), from district to upazila level.
