BNP Dissolves Phulbari and Parbatipur Upazila Committees in Dinajpur

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has dissolved its existing committees for the Phulbari and Parbatipur upazilas in Dinajpur district.

The decision was announced Saturday in a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. While the official statement did not specify the reasons for the dissolution or provide a timeline for forming new leadership, local party officials shed light on the move.

Principal Khurshid Alam Moti, the outgoing president of the Phulbari Upazila BNP, explained that the dissolved committees were formed in 2017 and had long outlived their official terms.

He also cited internal disciplinary concerns as a primary factor for the restructuring. According to Moti, several local leaders actively opposed the official BNP candidate during the last national election. With local government elections approaching, the district leadership feared further breaches of party discipline.

To address these vulnerabilities, local leaders petitioned the central command to disband the expired committees. Moti added that the municipal BNP committees for both upazilas might also face dissolution shortly, paving the way for fresh, unified convening committees.
