5 Injured as Chemical Fire Ravages Savar Factory

A massive fire at a chemical factory in Hemayetpur Savar left five people injured early Sunday including four responding firefighters. The blaze which triggered multiple chemical explosions took emergency crews six hours to bring under control.

The fire erupted around 12:30 AM in a six-story building at Shahidullah Housing near the Padma intersection. After locals spotted heavy smoke the Savar Fire Service deployed two units to the scene, eventually extinguishing the flames by 7:00 AM.

During the rescue operation highly flammable materials inside the chemical warehouse caused frequent explosions. Four firefighters—Md. Shamim, Md. Ujjwal, Md. Omar Faruk, and Team Leader Monowar Hossain—sustained minor injuries and received immediate first aid. A local resident, 40-year-old Mashiur Rahman, was severely injured and rushed to Savar’s Enam Medical College Hospital. Doctors have confirmed he is currently out of danger.

While factory staff suspect a malfunctioning electrical meter sparked the blaze, the Fire Service stated that the official cause and total financial damages will only be confirmed following a formal investigation.
