Bangladesh and UAE Deepen Ties Over Safe Migration and Economic Trade

Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations focusing on safe migration and expanding economic cooperation. This progress was outlined during a meeting between Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and UAE Ambassador Abdulla Ali AlHmoudi in Dhaka on Sunday.

During the talks, State Minister Islam expressed concern regarding the current challenges faced by Bangladeshi expatriates in the UAE and directly requested the ambassador's support. She emphasized the government's dedication to ensuring safe orderly and transparent migration while actively protecting the welfare of Bangladeshis living abroad. To formalize solutions for these issues, Bangladesh proposed hosting the Second Bangladesh–UAE Joint Consular Committee Meeting in Dhaka later in 2026.

Beyond migration the two officials focused heavily on deepening economic ties. They agreed to expedite negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), a move expected to create a robust framework for trade and investment. Additionally both nations committed to activating the Bangladesh–UAE Joint Business Council to boost collaboration across key sectors including energy infrastructure ports and information technology.

The meeting concluded on a cooperative note with the UAE ambassador thanking Bangladesh for supporting the inclusion of the UAE's Wadi Wurayah National Park on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Both nations pledged to maintain close engagement to benefit their citizens and strengthen their multifaceted friendly partnership.
