Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee stated that the self-reliance movement initiated by the late President Ziaur Rahman is now being advanced across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The minister made these remarks on Saturday evening while attending an agricultural support event at the Laxmipur Sadar Upazila Parishad. Organized by the Agriculture Department distributed fertilizers and five coconut seedlings to each participating marginal farmer.

Addressing the farmers Anee highlighted the region's agricultural potential that local lands can yield up to four crops annually. He emphasized the importance of planned farming and assured the public that the government is actively excavating canals to improve local irrigation systems.

"The government has allocated 1,600 coconut trees, alongside seeds and fertilizers for farmers in Laxmipur Sadar and Chandraganj upazilas" the minister said. He explained that these initiatives are designed to boost agricultural output and strengthen farmers' morale and urging them to work cooperatively with government efforts.

Anee further noted that the ongoing nationwide canal digging program is a direct continuation of Ziaur Rahman's historic initiative. He explained that restoring these waterways will ensure proper drainage also protect regional roads from waterlogging damage and directly benefit the agricultural sector.

Laxmipur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Kathoypru Marma, Chandraganj UNO Nilufa Yasmin Nipa and Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Hasan Imam were among the officials present at the event.
