Swift Trial Promised for Apratim Murder, Says Home Minister

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the trial of 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Apratim, who was killed in Cumilla, will be completed as quickly as possible, similar to the trial in the Ramisa murder case.

“The court will conduct the trial, and we will provide all necessary support,” the minister said.

He made the remarks during a briefing on contemporary issues at the Secretariat on Sunday (September 20).

Salahuddin Ahmed described Apratim’s death as a tragic incident that had deeply saddened people across the country. He said the victim was a minor, aged around 13, and that his body was recovered after he went missing.

The minister also praised the police for their response, saying they had managed to arrest all the accused within 12 hours.

The case concerns the killing of seventh-grade student Ishayat Shahriar Apratim, whose body was recovered from a forested area near Lalmai Hill in Sananda village, close to Cumilla University, about 22 hours after he went missing. Four people had been arrested in connection with the case as of Sunday, according to reports.

The minister said the government would cooperate with the court to ensure the case proceeds quickly. A separate report said a mobile phone belonging to Apratim’s mother, which had gone missing after the incident, was recovered from the possession of suspect Tuhin.
