Pabna Launches Mosquito Control, Cleanliness Drive to Fight Dengue

A mosquito-control and cleanliness campaign was conducted in Pabna on Saturday (September 19) to raise public awareness about dengue prevention and destroy potential mosquito breeding grounds.

The campaign was held in Ward 15 of Pabna Municipality in the morning, organised by the district administration with support from the municipality. The initiative was part of broader dengue-prevention and cleanliness activities being conducted across Bangladesh during the high-risk dengue season.

Pabna-5 MP Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Deputy Commissioner Aminul Islam, Pabna District Council Administrator and freedom fighter Zahurul Islam Bishu, Local Government Division Deputy Director and Municipal Administrator Khairul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Moniruzzaman and Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Sakhawat Hossain, along with district BNP leaders, were present during the campaign.

Speakers said government initiatives alone are not enough to prevent dengue and stressed the importance of public awareness and active participation.

They urged residents to ensure that stagnant water does not accumulate around homes, educational institutions, business establishments and other nearby areas, as such places can become mosquito breeding grounds.

They also advised people to regularly remove standing water from courtyards, rooftops, drains, discarded containers and other locations. Alongside maintaining cleanliness, residents were urged to cooperate with the authorities in mosquito-control activities.

During the campaign, stagnant water and potential mosquito breeding sites were identified and cleaned at different locations, while mosquito-control operations were also carried out.

A similar cleanliness and mosquito-control drive was conducted in Pabna Municipality’s Ward 15 on September 19, including spraying to control Aedes mosquitoes, drain cleaning, waste removal and efforts to destroy breeding sites.
