Two alleged bus workers have been arrested with 8,000 yaba pills during a special operation by the Department of Narcotics Control in Narail.
The operation was conducted around 12:15pm on Friday (September 19) in the bus stand area of Malibagh intersection on the Kalna-Narail-Jashore highway.
According to the Narail district office of the Department of Narcotics Control, an intelligence-based operation was conducted under the leadership of Deputy Director Golok Majumder. The team searched a Narail Express bus (Dhaka Metro-B-11-9658) travelling towards Jashore.
During the search, officials found 8,000 yaba pills in a shopping bag carried by a passenger sitting in the first seat on the left beside the bus door.
The arrested man was identified as Md Yakub Sardar, 41, son of Gani Sardar of Dighalia village in Bhadrabila Union under Narail Sadar Police Station.
His alleged associate, Md Sujon Molla, 33, son of Afsu Molla of Kanchanpur village, was also arrested during the operation.
Deputy Director Golok Majumder said the yaba pills were packed in 40 blue zipper bags, with 200 pills in each bag, and wrapped with Scotch tape inside a cardboard carton.
A Walton Android mobile phone was also seized. The estimated market value of the confiscated yaba is around Tk24 lakh, he said.
According to the narcotics officials, the two arrested men work as bus workers. During preliminary interrogation, they allegedly admitted that they had been posing as passengers and using buses to transport drugs for a long time.
The arrested men were handed over to Narail Sadar Police Station. A case was filed under Sections 36(1), Schedule 10(c), and 41 of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018 (amended).
Narail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Russell Sarwar confirmed the matter to the media.
