US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he is banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House, accusing the news organizations of reporting "fake news." The unprecedented move has sparked immediate global backlash with legal experts warning it violates the US Constitution's First Amendment.

In a social media post, Trump claimed the networks report "fiction and lies." He later defended the decision in the Oval Office, expressing frustration with their coverage and threatening that other outlets specifically naming The New York Times and The Washington Post could face similar bans.

Despite the immediate declaration, journalists from the affected outlets were still operating at the White House on Friday afternoon though reports indicate they will be barred starting Saturday.

The targeted networks strongly condemned the restriction. CNN called the threatened ban an "illegal assault" on fundamental rights while Politico vowed to vigorously defend its press freedoms.

Legal advocates warn the administration will face significant hurdles in court. Experts emphasize that the ban is a textbook case of "viewpoint discrimination." Under the 1977 Sherrill v. Knight federal ruling the White House cannot deny access to credentialed journalists simply because the president disapproves of their coverage.

This move marks a severe escalation in Trump’s ongoing war with the independent press during his second term. The administration recently barred the Associated Press from presidential events after the agency refused to adopt Trump’s preferred term "Gulf of America" for the Gulf of Mexico.

With crucial US midterm elections weeks away and his administration facing public scrutiny also this latest media crackdown raises serious concerns about the future of press freedom in Washington.
