

The triennial conference of the Bangladesh Primary School Assistant Teachers’ Association, Shantiganj Upazila branch, was held in Sunamganj with the slogan “Long live the dignity of teachers.”
The conference elected Assistant Teacher Rana Acharya as president and Faizul Haque as general secretary of the new three-year committee.
The conference was held at Sohel Community Centre in Shantiganj Bazar at 11am on Saturday (September 19).
The event was chaired by Badal Chandra Das, president of the Shantiganj Upazila branch of the Bangladesh Primary School Assistant Teachers’ Association. Assistant Teachers Rabea Akter and Murshed Alam Mizan jointly moderated the programme.
Mohammad Harun Rashid, president of the Sunamganj district branch and joint secretary of the association’s central committee, addressed the conference as the chief guest. District branch General Secretary Abu Hossain Md Asadul Islam spoke as a special guest.
The outgoing upazila branch General Secretary Sheikh Habibur Rahman and Assistant Teachers Rintu Kumar Das, Anuj Kanti Das, Shamim Ahmed, Abu Taher Soni, Sultan Ahmed, Zakia Sultana, Ruby Akter, Sajib Chandra Das, Faizul Haque, Sanjita Rani Talukdar, Umme Kulsum, Rana Acharya and Dhananjay Chandra also addressed the conference.
Assistant teachers from various government primary schools in the upazila attended the event.
Rana Acharya was unanimously elected president, while Faizul Haque was elected general secretary.
The new committee includes Bintu Kumar Das as senior vice-president and Sajib Chandra Das, Satyendra Chandra Toropdar, Fatema Begum Chowdhury Beauty, Mst Khaleda Begum and Mst Rabea Akter as vice-presidents.
Abduz Zahur, Kamruzzaman, Sultan Ahmad and Malay Kanti Das were elected joint general secretaries. Shamim Ahmed was named organising secretary, Murshed Alam Mizan finance secretary and Hemanta Kumar Das assistant finance secretary.
Zakia Sultana was elected women’s affairs secretary, with Farzana Jannat and Mahbuba Rahman Rimi as assistant women’s affairs secretaries. Nirmal Chandra Das was named office secretary, Prantosh Kumar Das literature and publication secretary, and Bappu Kumar Das assistant literature and publication secretary.
Anuj Kanti Das was elected publicity secretary and Nibas Talukdar assistant publicity secretary. Kakon Shri Talukdar was named education and training secretary, while Rina Rani Sharma was elected cultural secretary, with Jewel Mia and Daisy Talukdar as assistant cultural secretaries.
Samrat Mia was elected legal affairs secretary, Abu Taher Soni sports secretary, Saikat Das information and technology secretary, Shahnaz Ferdousi primary and education coordination secretary, Maulana Saeed Ahmad Sardar religious affairs secretary and Tanzina Begum international affairs secretary.
The organisers said the remaining posts and committee members would be selected later.
