Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has strongly criticized the government with accusing it of betraying the nation and failing to address severe public hardships.
Speaking at a roadside rally in Tangail’s Ashekpur Bypass area on Saturday morning, Dr. Rahman highlighted the ongoing crises in gas, electricity and fuel. He argued that the government has deceived the public through arbitrary administrative appointments and completely failed to fulfill the people's aspirations.
The rally was part of the 11-party opposition alliance's Dhaka-Rangpur long march organized to press for an eight-point demand.
During his address, Dr. Rahman issued a stern warning if the government ignores the alliance's eight demands, mounting public frustration will force the opposition to escalate their movement into a singular "one-point demand."
The alliance's eight-point charter includes implementing the recent referendum verdict, ensuring justice for the July massacres, resolving the national energy and fertilizer crises, and controlling the soaring prices of essential commodities. The coalition is also demanding an immediate end to corruption, extortion, land grabbing and partisan politics alongside the swift implementation of the Teesta Master Plan.
"We will continue this movement alongside the people if our legitimate demands are not met," Dr. Rahman stated firmly.
Presided over by Tangail District Jamaat Ameer Ahsan Habib Masud, the rally was attended by several prominent political figures. Key speakers included National Parliament Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam, LDP Chairman Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Ameer Allama Mamunul Haque and Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar alongside other top leaders of the 11-party alliance.
