State-run Petrobangla has urged citizens to ignore social media rumours claiming a total nationwide gas shutdown. The authority clarified that gas supply will remain active though low pressure may occur in some areas over a four-day period.
In a press release on Tuesday, Petrobangla warned that a vested group is spreading panic using fake media photocards with fabricated shutdown claims. The actual disruption stems from emergency maintenance at the Summit Floating LNG Terminal in Moheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar.
Regasification operations at the Summit terminal will halt from 8:00 AM on November 4 to 4:00 PM on November 7. Consequently daily national grid supply will drop by about 12.5% falling from 2,570 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) to 2,250 mmcfd. LNG delivery to the national grid will drop from 920 mmcfd to 600 mmcfd.
Petrobangla reassured the public that households, factories, power stations and fertilizer plants will continue receiving gas, albeit at reduced pressure in certain zones.
Bangladesh operates two floating LNG facilities Summit Group (500 mmcfd capacity) and US-based Excelerate Energy (600 mmcfd capacity) which blend imported fuel with domestic production. Similar maintenance was successfully completed at the Summit terminal in December 2025.
