Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has issued a stern warning against individuals attempting to spark unrest and instability under the guise of garment worker protests also assuring that strict legal action will be taken.
Speaking on the ongoing labor unrest, the minister alleged that despite the government forming a new wage board to determine a revised minimum wage, vested groups are inciting workers to block highways and commit arson.
"Those involved in activities against workers' interests under the guise of a labor movement or conspiring to create instability will be dealt with severely" Salahuddin warned. He added that authorities are collecting audio and video evidence to identify and prosecute key instigators including certain factory owners and labor leaders accused of fueling the violence.
The minister noted that the current minimum wage structure set in November 2023 is scheduled for review and the newly formed board will expedite discussions to announce a fair wage increase. He assured that the government is committed to protecting workers' livelihoods and improving their quality of life in accordance with directives from the prime minister.
He urged workers not to fall prey to political manipulation, reiterating that law enforcement agencies will take decisive measures to maintain public order and safeguard state property.
