Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed stated on Sunday that a lack of coordination between the executive magistrate and the police led to the violent clashes during a hawker eviction drive by DNCC in Dhaka’s Mirpur-10.
Speaking after a law-and-order meeting regarding upcoming Durga Puja 2026 security at the Secretariat, the Home Minister confirmed that an investigation has been ordered into the incident.
Addressing questions on intelligence failure the minister explained, "I have learned that the magistrate overseeing the operation did not properly communicate with the police. I believe there was a lack of coordination and we have ordered an investigation to find out what happened."
The violence broke out on Wednesday morning when Dhaka North City Corporation workers and police attempted to clear illegal hawkers from Mirpur-10 footpaths. The situation rapidly escalated as angry protesters set fire to three city corporation vehicles and vandalized police and media vehicles also leaving several people injured.
The government aims to determine accountability and prevent similar operational failures during public enforcement drives.
