National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has demanded the immediate removal of Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed also citing a complete failure to maintain law and order across the country.
Speaking at a press briefing following a party meeting in Dhaka on Monday, Nahid stated that restoring public safety is impossible while the Home Minister remains in office. He urged the government to set an example of executive accountability by replacing him.
Nahid highlighted recent security breaches including the demolition of the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur and the vandalization of content creator Salman Muqtadir’s studio also alleging that law enforcement remained passive during these attacks.
The NCP leader also criticized the government on several other fronts:
Public Recruitment: Alleged politicization in primary school teacher hiring following police verification.
Foreign Policy: Claimed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s address at the UN General Assembly ignored critical national issues such as the energy crisis, border killings, push-ins, the Rohingya crisis and the Teesta project.
Constitutional Reform: Rejected a parliamentary committee approach with demanding the immediate activation of the Constitution Reform Council to implement the July National Charter.
Cyber Security Act: Expressed concern that the proposed legislation could be weaponized to suppress free speech and dissent.
Nahid announced that the NCP will contest upcoming local government elections independently, endorsing candidates committed to ending extortion, land grabbing and terrorism. Senior NCP leaders including Akhter Hossen, Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah and Nasiruddin Patwari were present at the briefing.
