Australia have rested most of their regular Test players for the upcoming home One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 (T20) series against England, selecting a refreshed squad led by experienced all-rounder Mitchell Marsh.
Only six players from the recent Test tour of South Africa—Travis Head, Matthew Renshaw, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis and Cooper Connolly—have been included in the ODI squad and none will feature in the T20 matches.
Uncapped players Jack Edwards, Liam Scott and 20-year-old batsman Oliver Peake have earned call-ups while 21-year-old fast bowler Mahli Beardman returns from injury to join both squads.
Chief selector George Bailey explained that the decision aims to prevent player fatigue during a demanding international calendar.
"Our multi-format players are transitioning directly from South Africa into an ODI and T20 series, leaving a narrow window to ensure the squad is physically prepared for the upcoming New Zealand Test series" Bailey said.
The three-match ODI series begins in Perth on November 13, followed by games in Adelaide and Hobart. A five-match T20 series will take place across Melbourne, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra in late November and early December. Australia will then host New Zealand for a four-Test series starting December 9.
