Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that 3,000-4,000 megawatts of solar power will be added to the national grid next year. He said, "The government wants to reduce not only electricity production but also costs."
He made these remarks at the inauguration ceremony of Bangladesh Solar Expo-2026 on Tuesday (November 3) morning. The event was held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital. Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hassan Mahmud presided over the program.

The Prime Minister said, "Instead of wasting time discussing and criticizing the failures or roles of previous governments in ensuring energy security and power generation, I think that how to meet the electricity demand in the coming days and ensure uninterrupted power supply to homes and businesses is the priority for the current government."
Also present at the event were State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit, Finance Secretary Md. Khairuzzaman Majumder and Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Mirana Mahrukh.
