Prime Minister Tarique Rahman returned to Dhaka early Friday following a successful four-day official visit to Japan aimed at expanding trade, investment and strategic cooperation.
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the Prime Minister and his delegation landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:48 am.
During the visit PM Tarique Rahman held bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Discussions focused on strengthening partnership across key sectors, including trade, infrastructure, energy security, technology and regional affairs. The two leaders reviewed a proposed 1-trillion-yen ($6.3 billion) Japanese private investment plan in Bangladesh's energy, infrastructure and ICT sectors.
Bangladesh secured pledges for two yen-loan projects worth 46.56 billion yen ($295.5 million) alongside six bilateral cooperation instruments including a 2.12-billion-yen grant for a coastal patrol vessel and agreements spanning agriculture, skill development and climate action. Additionally, 17 private-sector memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed at the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).
Addressing the Bangladesh-Japan Economic Forum, PM Tarique Rahman urged Japanese corporations to invest in five priority areas: automotive manufacturing, energy, technology and space, high-speed rail and logistics and agro-processing, promising policy reforms to ease business operations.
He also engaged with major business leaders including executives from Toyota, Uniqlo, Mitsui & Co. and JERA—and inspected major industrial and energy facilities across Tokyo, Futtsu and Nagoya.
The visit highlights growing bilateral momentum following the signing of the historic Bangladesh-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) in February 2026.
