One person was killed and two others were injured when a septic tank exploded at an under-construction building in Gazipur city on Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 7:15 am at a three-storey building in the Naojor area according to Rajib Hossain the warehouse inspector at the Gazipur Chowrasta Modern Fire Service.
The deceased was identified as Sakib from Bauphal Upazila in Patuakhali district.
Inspector Rajib stated that two rooms built directly over the ground-floor septic tank were rented out to garment workers. The sudden blast destroyed the doors and windows of the rooms and killing Sakib on the spot.
Police officers rescued the two injured individuals and sent them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for treatment. Sakib's body was handed over to Basan Police Station.
Soeb Mohammad, Assistant Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (Sadar Zone) said preliminary investigations suggest toxic gas accumulation inside the unventilated septic tank triggered the explosion. A formal inquiry into the incident is underway.
