Under the Bus Route Rationalization initiative in Dhaka will launch company-based franchise bus services on Sunday November 1, to reduce reckless competition and bring discipline to public transit.
Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, MP from Pabna-5 and Chief Coordinator of the Transport Owner-Worker Unity Council will officially inaugurate the service at 11 am from Manik Mia Avenue.
The reform assigns specific routes to designated transport operators, replacing chaotic multi-company competition on single corridors:
Shibbari (Gazipur) to Azimpur (26.47 km): VIP Transport will operate 253 non-AC buses.
Mirpur Zoo to Keraniganj (17.18 km): Zoo Transport will operate 133 buses.
Ghatarchar to Demra (24.49 km): Ramzan Ali Enterprises will run 7 buses.
Ghatarchar to Kanchpur (25.5 km): Four-Star Bus Line will run 150 buses.
Ghatarchar to Dhour (~30 km): PNP City Service will operate designated buses.
Tongi to Azimpur (22.89 km): Dhaka Chaka will operate 20 AC buses.
Designated bus depots and terminal sites include Shibbari, Mirpur, Keraniganj, Ghatarchar, Demra, Kanchpur and Kamarpara. Ten buses on the Shibbari–Azimpur route will park temporarily from Palashi intersection to Azimpur.
City commuters hope the company-based management system will enforce strict route compliance also improve service quality and ease urban traffic chaos.
